HFF University of Television and Film and Museum of Egyptian Art

Munich, 2004 / 3rd prize

The arrangement of the buildings follows the classical urban planning principles of Munich's Maxvorstadt and develops them further into the cultural heart of the quarter. Wide cantilvered canopies give the two houses an inviting apron and an appropriate address of their own. Both new buildings are related to each other in terms of volumetry and urban planning, but each shows its own character in terms of materials and typology. The aluminum façade, painted in graduated shades of red and interspersed with bands of windows, lends the cubic structure of the HFF a dynamism reminiscent of the aesthetics of moving images and thus, in the sense of an effective CI, carries the content of the building to the public.
