Museum and Cultural Forum

Arnsberg, 2012 / 2nd prize

The Sauerland Museum housed in the Landsberger Hof will be expanded into the Museum and Cultural Forum South Westphalia as part of the Regionale 2013. The historic existing building will be renovated and the permanent exhibition housed there will be redesigned. The extension will meet contemporary requirements and will also enable the museum to host high-caliber temporary exhibitions in the future. On the valley side of the Landsberger Hof, three staggered structures will be pushed into the slope, which will be accessed via a central access axis from the main entrance of the old building on the Alter Markt. Two exhibition rooms of 250 and 550 m2 will be created, as well as a room for education. The new building volumes clad in natural stone enhance the urban development situation on Ruhrstrasse while retaining the dominance of the old building. The English promenade runs between the terraced buildings, and the roofs are made accessible as museum terraces with distant views.
