The new building for the St. Eberhard Cathedral Choir School in Stuttgart stands as a striking brick structure in a gap surrounded by Wilhelminian-era houses. Its sculptural independence does justice to the overriding importance of the church as an institution and blends into its surroundings through its materiality and craftsmanship. A passage leads visitors from the street into a tree-lined courtyard. Only here does the entrance become visible. The building, closed to the outside, opens onto the courtyard with its foyer, administration, and apartments. The introverted choir rooms are flooded with natural light via skylights.
