Culture house, training center and town hall extension - three simple buildings together with the existing town hall characterize the town center of Ingelheim at the “Neuer Markt”. The buildings are grouped together as solitary structures, creating a sequence of squares staggered according to the topography and giving each building its own outdoor space. The all-round urban composition avoids rear sides and creates a clear hierarchy of spaces. The Kulturhaus, which is square in plan, is accessed directly from Platz der Kultur as the central building block. A generous flight of steps leads up to the higher level of the education building. The Kulturhaus is conceived as a hybrid building, comprising the main large rooms, cultural hall, concert hall, chamber music hall and seminar rooms. These halls occupy the main corners of the building and their differentiated room heights create a rich basic structure for the building. All halls are accessed via a three-dimensional foyer extending through the building with a centrally lit staircase.
