Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science

Regensburg, 2011 / 3rd prize

The new building of the Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics of the Regensburg University of Applied Sciences is designed as a three-story structure and, with its calm form, closes the south-east flank of the campus to Galgenbergstraße and the connecting road. The new building is located on the western edge of the construction site and is thus clearly assigned to the central green space. Its main entrance is additionally emphasized by a cut-out vestibule. The building is developed on a rectangular floor plan and is zoned into four areas with building depths between 11 and 16 m by two offset atriums. This creates a building that is flooded with light at every point, dark corridors do not exist. In conjunction with the supporting skeleton, this zoning creates a high degree of flexibility in terms of single or double access, room layer depths and "room bar lengths". Within the development zones, a spatially stimulating communication landscape is created with the possibility of adapting the building to future developments of the university.
