Conversion of the Hugenottenhalle and municipal library

Neu-Isenburg, 2024 / 3rd prize

An essential basis for the revitalization of the Hugenottenhalle is its urban consolidation and the strengthening of its urban presence towards the address-forming Frankfurter Strasse. To this end, the necessary extension of the hall is proposed primarily on the west side and as an increase in the height of the existing building, so that its completely renovated face moves closer to this important urban axis. A slender wing of the building on the northern edge of the forecourt frames the future entrance together with the current library building. The gastronomy located here on the first floor is oriented towards the south and ensures that the square is enlivened. The rather heterogeneous neighboring buildings to the north will no longer play a role in the future formation of the square and will thus gain more privacy. The flexible conference area will be located on the first floor of the current library. Its ground-floor location and separate access from the south will ensure that it can be used independently. The main structure will be extended by one axis to the west to create space for an appropriately spacious foyer and to strengthen the visibility of the Hugenottenhalle in the urban space.
