The new building is positioned in such a way that the existing greenhouses are not shaded and at the same time an appropriately representative square is created for the Julius Kühn Institute. The building appears as a sharply cut rectangular volume whose four façades are differentiated according to the different requirements of the four cardinal points: The closed east and west façades are covered with dark green PV elements, which make use of the flat incidence of sunlight. The north façade is designed as a flush-fitted glass façade with interspersed ventilation panels in dark green anodized aluminium. The south façade corresponds to the north façade, but is supplemented by a layer of grating in front of the building to provide the necessary solar shading. The three-storey structure is given a striking internal structure by two incised courtyards. The courtyards divide the building into four quadrants, of which the quadrant facing the forecourt houses the public areas.
