The characteristic feature of Vreden's urban structure is the gabled houses lining the streets. This typology is also followed by the two museum buildings from the 1970s and 1980s. The expansion of the museum into the Westmünsterland Cultural History Center integrates the collection and complements it into a scaled and powerful ensemble as a point of identification and destination on the cultural axis of Vreden. However, the goal is not only to quote the found text, but to further develop and distort it. Thus, the peripheral First formulates a concise architectural accent as a building head. The new building will have a facade made of thin-format cast glass masonry. The matte surface of the sandblasted cast glass stones gives the building a subtle sheen. The high proportion of joints due to the small format gives the house a tectonic weight at the same time and is to be understood as a contemporary reference to the clinker tradition of Münsterland.
