City Museum

Lippstadt, 2025 / Commendation

Together with the historic palace, the new museum building stands out against the striking backdrop of Lippstadt's old town around St. Mary's Church, thus enlivening the public urban space. The newly created market square forms the urban counterpart to the town hall square on the east side of the church. The square new building docks onto the northeast corner of the Palais Rose, thus zoning the surrounding urban space. By placing the new building on the corner, the historic palace will retain its solitary role and charisma on the market square in the future. The gable of the asymmetrical gable roof gives the new building the desired prominence of a cultural building opposite Lippstadt's St. Mary's Church. At the same time, the lowered eaves lines reduce the perceived volume of the building and give it an appropriate scale in the neighborhood. The entrance to the museum leads directly into the spacious foyer with a ticket counter and shop. The museum education center to the north can be connected to the foyer to create a versatile space.
