Nikolauspflege - Restructuring of the Kräherwald Campus

Stuttgart, 2016 / 2nd prize

The school building shields the campus from the busy road at Kräherwald and encloses a spacious green open space that serves as a noise-protected schoolyard. Its floor plan and elevation are staggered, following the curve of the street and the existing topography. The new building is subordinate to the listed old building in the city skyline, setting it apart. For disabled students, a barrier-free open space connection will be created along the edge of the hill. The building will have a facade of sandblasted white concrete. The flush-mounted windows of light red anodized aluminum subtly echo the colors of the surrounding existing buildings, transforming them into a contemporary architectural language.
