The elementary school in Miltenberg is an architectural ensemble that exemplifies the delicate and playful post-war architecture in Germany. Over the past 60 years since the Miltenberg elementary school was built, pedagogical concepts have evolved considerably, which has also led to completely different requirements for the construction of a school building. In order to address this conflict of objectives, a two-storey structure is being added to the ensemble, which translates the current pedagogical concept of learning landscapes into architecture in an ideal way. The remaining functions of the school will be accommodated in the existing buildings with minimal and substance-preserving interventions. Together with the sports hall, the buildings frame a spacious schoolyard in the middle of the site.
